An Alternative Waste Disposal Solution, Hippowaste

The Hippobag is an exceptionally strong bag that can hold large amounts of waste and is ideal for both domestic and construction projects. Once full the bag and its contents are collected, taken away and disposed of in a responsible manner via the Hippowaste collection service.

The Brief

Remarkable implemented a 12 month integrated communications campaign to an audience of national and regional consumers as well as the trade. It was designed to build and maintain brand awareness, contribute to bag sales and collections and position Hippowaste as a leading, responsible provider of waste disposal solutions.

The Solution

The Remarkable team devised a strategic programme of brand-building PR and marketing communications. This included:

  • Proactive and reactive media relations - Remarkable devised a consumer media pack and developed consumer surveys to glean news-worthy findings. One of the first items to catch the attention of the national press was an item entitled ’10 of the strangest things people throw away’ (items included a suitcase of human skulls, an old mattress stuffed with £5,000 and a live tortoise!), while the second had a more serious message about current UK recycling habits
  • Full suite of marketing collateral - A ‘suite of literature was created to generate awareness and support the Hippowaste sales team
  • Corporate social responsibility scheme – Working with Hippowaste, Remarkable developed a corporate social responsibility programme, ‘Grants up for Grabs’, whereby Hippowaste donated free waste disposal to community projects, charities and schools. To date, more than 100 projects have benefitted
  • Mud Club – Remarkable developed and launched a children’s recycling website which supported Hippowaste’s brand values in terms of educating consumers and the next generation of recyclers about responsible waste disposal and recycling
  • The Hippo Pool – A special customer loyalty website was devised which provided customers with special offers and competitions, as well as acting as an online homes/gardens ‘magazine’ and resource for waste and recycling information

Results

Remarkable generated over £250,000 worth of press coverage (advertising equivalent) over 12 months with the Hippobag featured in over 100 national magazines and newspapers. The company’s profile has been significantly raised, new business leads generated and a major uplift in bag sales has been achieved.

Remarkable also helped to secured three awards for the company including Royal Bank of Scotland’s Regional Business of the Year.
